170,000 metres. One day. All of us.
The JMS Challenge
On 20 September, our members are covering 170,000 metres by bike — one for every life heart and circulatory disease takes in the UK each year — then carrying two kettlebells in relay from JMS Fitness HQ out to Hicks Lodge and back, four hours on the road.
- Date
- Sunday 20 September 2026
- Where
- JMS Fitness HQ (///couriers.suspect.later), New Fields Road, Moira — out to Hicks Lodge
- Who
- Members, plus anyone who wants to help
- Duration
- The relay runs for four hours
How it works
Two phases, one team
- 01
170,000 metres by bike
Members take it in turns on the bikes through the day, covering 170,000 metres between them — one metre for every life heart and circulatory disease takes in the UK each year.
- 02
The kettlebell relay
From there it's on foot: two kettlebells, carried in relay from JMS Fitness HQ out to Hicks Lodge and back, members swapping in and out to keep it moving for four hours straight.
- 03
One team, one total
Every metre and every kilo carried goes towards the same fundraising total as the JMS Total and the wider campaign — all of it towards a defibrillator.
Why that number
170,000
Heart and circulatory diseases cause roughly 170,000 deaths in the UK each year — the British Heart Foundation's own figure. Every metre the team covers on the bikes on 20 September stands for one of them.

Before you ask
Questions we get a lot
Do I need to be a member to take part?
While it's a member challenge, we're happy for anyone to jump in and help out.
Do I have to do the whole 170,000m or the whole relay myself?
No — it's a team effort. Members and anyone helping out take turns on the bikes and in the kettlebell relay through the day.
Can I do the Challenge and the JMS Total?
Yes — they're both happening on 20 September, so plenty of people will do both.
Where does the money go?
Sponsorship for the Challenge goes towards the same defibrillator fund as everything else.
